Meatballs and Gravy Crockpot Recipe

4 Ingredient Meatballs and Gravy – Crazy Easy Comfort Foods!

Posted on January 20, 2020March 2, 2021 by Stacy Verdick Case

It’s winter in Minnesota which mean it’s time for all kinds of comfort food. Especially my favorite Meatballs and Gravy!  I love wonderful smells filling the house after a day of hard work.

Here’s the thing you need to know about me as a cook, I am lazy. I want home cooked meals but I don’t want to do it. Neither does my husband and my 11-year-old isn’t much help in that department.  One of us has to do it so I guess that has to be me.

So I have come up with loads of crazy easy ways to make comfort food and this is one of my favorites.  It’s the ultimate dump and go meal. I can even make it before I’ve had a cup of coffee in the morning.  That is an amazing thing because I won’t even grunt at people before I’ve had two cups.

Let’s Make Meatballs and Gravy!

Grab your crockpot because this meatballs and gravy is a cook all day and enjoy recipe!

Frozen Meatball for Meatballs and gravy

First add a bag of frozen meatballs and pop it into your crockpot. I did lay down a bed of onions but that’s not part of my 4 ingredients.  This was a day I was feeling ambitious enough to cut onions.

I prefer Simek’s meatballs to these FarmRich meatballs. These are a lot smaller and they dried out a bit.

Brown Gravy Mix in Meatballs

Add a package of brown gravy mix.

beef broth

Add a full can of beef broth to the crockpot. If you don’t have beef broth in a can then substitute a beef bullion cube and water (which is what I’ve done). If you want more gravy you can add more broth. I have used a 32 ounce beef broth in the past and it works out great.

Meatballs and gravy

I’m okay with eating this with a bag salad and instant mashed potatoes (again, lazy cook here), but some of you might want whole potatoes.  In that case just pop those in the crockpot too. Not the salad though. That would just be weird.

My husband likes to thicken the sauce into a a full gravy in a sauce pan before eating but I like the thinned out sauce. That is personal preference. But if you choose his path you are adding work. Just saying.

My family loves this meatballs and gravy and I really hope your family does does too. If you want another family favorite check out my Beef bourguignon recipe!!

Meatballs and Gravy

This is a quick and easy meal to make in the crock-pot in the morning and have it ready when you get home from work!

  • 1 bag frozen meatballs
  • 1 package brown gravy mix
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 medium onion
  1. Dump all ingredients in a crockpot.

  2. Set the crockpot on low and allow it to cook all day while you're away.

Serve over mashed potatoes. We use instant but you can always get the frozen potatoes if you prefer. Of course noodles work well with this as well.

I like the sauce the way it is but my husband prefers to thicken the gravy in a frying pan once the cooking is over. That’s personal preference.

Bonus: You can always add potatoes to the crockpot to cook at the same time if you want to serve over a boiled potatoes
