Dyeing a Lampshade with Jacquard Dye-na-flow

At Peony Lane Designs, I’m always looking for new ways to save vintage pieces from the landfill—and this project was a perfect example. I partnered with Jacquard Fabric Paints to try out their Dye-na-flow liquid fabric color and Airfix additive on a damaged vintage lampshade. Spoiler alert: I was seriously impressed.

Why Jacquard Dye-na-flow?

Jacquard sent over their Dye-na-flow in Hot Fuchsia, a bold, liquid fabric ink that works on fabric, paper, leather, and even wood. I also used their Airfix additive so I didn’t have to heat-set the dye—because, let’s be real, ironing a lampshade isn’t happening.

Don’t worry if you’re not into bright colors. Jacquard has more subtle colors to choose from as well. They have 30 colors to choose from include neutral shades like black and brown.

The Project: A Pink Lampshade Makeover

I had an old, stained and damaged vintage shade that was on its way to the garbage. Instead, I gave it new life—and a vibrant pink makeover—with Dye-na-flow. Here’s what I loved:

  • Super Even Coverage: Despite the textured fabric, the ink applied evenly without streaks.
  • Bold Color Payoff: What you see in the bottle is what you get on the fabric—rich, vivid, and true.
  • No Bleed-Through: Except for areas with actual cracks, the ink didn’t soak through the paper lining.
  • Still Flexible: Once dry, the fabric felt like fabric—no stiffness or weird texture!

What About the Pom Poms?

Yep, even the pom poms got a glow-up! I dabbed the dye directly on them, and while they took a little extra work, the results were worth it. Total transformation.

Bonus Round: Testing Upholstery

Because my brain never stops turning, I grabbed a few upholstery samples to test. The dye worked beautifully over patterns and textures—creating new color tones while maintaining the original fabric feel. This opens up so many possibilities for transforming furniture!

Final Verdict

I’m sold. This product is perfect for anyone wanting to refresh fabric pieces without harsh chemicals or stiff finishes. And if hot pink isn’t your jam, don’t worry—Jacquard offers tons of colors (including white, which I’m now obsessed with trying).

Dye-na-Flow is a hit!
