Cinnamon Rolls Frosting with No Cream Cheese

Cinnamon roll frosting with no cream cheese recently became a topic of conversation among my friends. Since we’re stuck home in my state people are baking and cooking comfort foods. One friend made cinnamon rolls but didn’t have any cream cheese to make frosting.  A quick jaunt to the store was out of the question so she sent out a text request for options.

Luckily, I have a solution!

Yummy Cinnamon Rolls Frosting with No Cream Cheese Required!

I never use cream cheese for my frosting for two reasons: 1) It’s never on hand and 2) I live too far away from the store for a “quick” run to get cream cheese.

However I do always stock powdered sugar, or confectioners sugar, since it’s easy to store for long periods as long as you have an air tight container (AKA – Tupperware). Powdered sugar makes a great frosting or glaze on cinnamon rolls (it’s also very tasty sprinkled on French Toast but that’s another topic).

If you’re stuck for a cinnamon roll frosting with no cream cheese here’s a quick and easy frosting that will deliciously top you cinnamon rolls!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Cinnamon Roll Frosting with No Cream Cheese ingredientsPowdered Sugar – Milk (or lemon, orange or apple juice) – Vanilla extract

Let me quickly say that if you use milk and vanilla you will get a wonderful vanilla flavored frosting. If you use lemon, orange or apple you will obviously get a frosting with those flavors and you can then leave the vanilla out or use a complimentary extract. For instance if you use apple juice a caramel extract would be mouth watering-ly wonderful.  Use you’re flavor imagination on this one.

Measure 1 1/2 cup of powdered sugar into a bowl. Add the 5 tablespoons of milk and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.  Whisk until smooth. Once the frosting is smooth, pour it over your cinnamon rolls.

That’s it really. It’s easy and yummy.

This recipe is for a full pan of cinnamon rolls which I didn’t make for this demonstration and as you can see in the photos, my rolls were bathed in frosting.  I should have halved this recipe.

You can easily make adjustments to this recipe without any ill effects.  Really all you need to do is add enough of the wet ingredients to the powdered sugar to give it a smooth consistency.  Don’t let that intimidate you. Just play with it you really can’t mess it up.

Well, maybe you can mess it up but not if you’re not really trying hard.

If you haven’t yet tried my Ace’s and Eights Corn Chowder click HERE for the recipe. It’s amazing! There’s always my Grandma’s Cinnamon Applesauce or Coke Floats if you’re looking for a sweet treat!

Good luck and happy eating!
